Supermodel Speaks Up for Abstinence

Elton John recently hosted a black-tie gala to benefit his AIDS Foundation. The old gay rocker took the opportunity to express his displeasure with the teaching of abstinence to teens. “They've made a grave error in giving millions to abstinence programs,” John told the audience. “They don't work. They were told in the beginning that it wouldn't work. It's a tragic waste of money. Please don't listen to those idiots. God almighty.”

Like ships passing in the night, one of the world’s top supermodels, Adriana Lima, was out speaking in support of abstinence. Lima is one of the Victoria’s Secret models who is promoting the “Airline of the Angels,” a strategic alliance between the lingerie manufacturer and airline Virgin America. The lingerie supermodels involved in the promotion have been dubbed “Virgins.” Interestingly, Lima has publicly owned up to actually being one — a virgin of the non-airline kind, that is. The model told GQ in 2006 that she planned to abstain from sex until she marries.

“They have to respect that this is my choice. If there's no respect, that means they don't want me,” she warned. Lima is providing inspiration for some young women in our society to follow suit.  “Thanks to Adriana, all my friends and I are advocating chastity,” 20-year-old UCLA co-ed Kate Jones tells Fox News. “We believe a lot of young girls have forgotten how to respect themselves, and it’s about time we went back to some old-fashioned values.”
